The end of March

Well Spring is springing here in Utah very slowly. It helps to have signs inside the house to remind me of what's happening outside with the new blossoms and baby buds, even though yesterday it was snowing. But, today it looks like we are going to have sunshine. I've learned to appreciate any sunshine we get this time of year. Don't you love to see new baby chicks and birds nest. They are reminders to me of spring.
Another little egg pincushion. I think I'm obsessed with pin cushions. I keep making them because they're so cute. They're like fabric, you can never have enough.
I thought I'd show you one of my favorite Easter Quilts that I just got out to display for Easter. Ignore the wrinkles. It's all hand appliqued and hand quilted.
This is a Bunny Hills Design called Rabbits Prefer chocolate.
If you look close you can see I used ribbon to embellish the rabbits necks along with some embroidery.
Don't you love the scalloped edge.
This quilt makes me happy when I get it out each year. I think it is a very fun design by Bunny Hill.
This is the label on the back of the quilt. I'm big on labeling quilts. After a while you forget when you made your quilt. So make sure you sign and date everything.

First Day of Spring

Well I hear it's the first day of spring.( yesterday technically but I was too busy working to enjoy until today) It was a beautiful day here today and I went for a walk to enjoy the sunshine. It's so fun to see the first signs of spring with the little green shoots springing up every where. I walked through my garden to say hi to all the little blooms that I can see poking their heads through the dirt. It makes me happy.

I designed this pin cushion as a class that I taught at the warehouse for Riley Blake Designs. I used our new fabric Andrea Victoria. I shared the idea with our store owners hoping to give them some fun ideas that they can use as mini classes for their stores.
I also invited the Quilted Fish who taught a very fun notebook cover, Mary's cottage Quilts who taught a table runner that is posted on our Cutting Corners College on our Riley Blake Designs home page, and also Doohikey Designs who did a hot pad demonstration. It was very successful and I think everyone had fun.

This is our new fabric Rainy Days and Mondays by Melimba and Beccabury. It is such a fun fabric to work with and makes me happy to see it this time of year. The colors turned our cheery and delightful and the fabric is flying out the door. The pattern for this quilt is from the free quilt project patterns that I design for Riley Blake Designs and can be downloaded from our web site under Quilt Projects.
I hope everyone has a wonderful week and that we stop to see the small blossoms peeking their way through the dreary grass and tree limbs. Go for a walk and enjoy the beautiful outdoors.

Bella Skirt

These are some baskets I've been working on for a while. Maybe a year. I don't know where the time goes. I'm up to 60. We'll see how many more I do. I'm trying to use all my scrap pink and red colored fabrics. I'll keep you posted on what I end up doing with them.

I was finally able to put my quilt on my frames and got it all quilted on Saturday. I finished binding it and will show it at That alpine Quilt Group at the end of the month. Maybe I'll have a good picture by then to show you.

I've been doing a photo shoot with my cute nieces who love posing for the camera. As you can see they are huge fans of cute girly things and they loved changing into the many outfits.

Of course, the poses are all their own and Randy and I have so much fun taking their pictures. They love climbing rocks and showing us how they can twirl and do all kinds of fun poses. We just laugh and have a great time.

Among all the cute photos to choose from this is the photo cover I chose. I just love how they're both holding hands . So sweet, so innocent. They're just adorable. If you can see the feather bracelet, I tried to let her know that it didn't match but there was no prying that from her wrist. So there it stays, in the picture. But who cares. It's the cute little faces and of course if you look beyond it's the cute skirt that you will love to make.

Among my cute things this week. My little dance students all got their new shoes and they can't help staring at their feet in the mirror when they dance.

I tried to show how little and cute the gillies (as we call them in Highland Dancing) are. They are about 5 inches in length. Just itty bitty cute. The ones on the right would be an average dance shoe size.

Look at those cute little feet. You should see them dance. They just love to dance and dance. They love to watch themselves in the mirror dance. Every time I think I'm ready to retire they remind me how much I love being in the studio and teaching.

Well onto many great things this week. There is a lot to be accomplished.

Rugby Tournament in St. George

We went to St. George for the weekend where my son played in Rugby tournaments all day Friday and Saturday. It was a beautiful sunny day in St. George. Who would have ever guessed that early that morning we were shoveling a foot and a half of snow out of the driveway, only to drive 4 hours south to sunshine.

He played such a great game Friday that we didn't know he'd injured himself til we saw him again Saturday and ended up in the insta-care getting x-rays on his wrist. The good news is that his wrist isn't broken. There's just some bruising and he'll have to wear a brace until he can use it again. That's his first injury in 4 years. Hopefully his last.

I did work on some hand stitching on the drive down. I'll show that later on.I've been working on using the new trims that we have in the warehouse for Riley Blake Designs. I came up with a new pattern and used the pom poms as trim for the bottom of this cute skirt. They looked so adorable on my nieces. We did a photo shoot and the skirts were absolutely darling. It was the highlight of their weekend to be able to pose for the camera. I'm still deciding on which photo to use for the pattern cover. I'll show you when I've made my decision.

Here they are close up and we have so many fun colors to choose from.

I used our fabric line called Bloom and grow by My Mind's Eye and as you can see the colors are fun to work with.

This skirt has a cute little flower brooch that has instructions included in the pattern on how to make. This skirt will be called the Bella Skirt.
