Quilt Market Spring 2010 Follow up

Look who I caught sleeping on the job. Don't tell Amanda from The Quilted Fish that Lynette is putting her poor, sore, tired feet up for a moment. She needs a cute pair of Amanda's slippers to soothe her throbbing feet from standing all day. Oh, and there's Connie trying to lay down to take a nap.

Look, more cute girls from the Quilted Fish.

The Pie Plate Pattern girls are always so happy and pleasant to be around. They also have wonderful homemade caramels.

Karen and Monica from Nellie's Needle showcase their new aprons and quilts.

I had to show more pictures of the Riley Blake Designs booth. This shows the side where we showcased Felicity by Emily Taylor. We had wonderful projects from Katie Cupcake, Green Fairy Quilts, Pink Hippo Quilts, Pixie Girl Quilts, Pie Plate Patterns, Butterfly Kisses and Mary's Cottage Quilts. We appreciate so much their talent with designing new products with Riley Blake Designs fabric.

Quilt Market 2nd day of setup!

Well here is a quick look at the progress of our booth. I wish I could show more but the internet I have access to while traveling is so slow. It's taken me 2 evenings just to do these few pictures. Here is a look at the walls going up in our booth.

This is for you Jodi Taylor, who is the designer of Nantucket Summer. She had 5 quilts made and this beautiful set up of new patterns and all kinds of fun projects that I will show more of when I get home. It looks fabulous and I think she would love it. Hope you like how it turned out Jodi.

This is Felicity, Emily Taylor is the designer and her fabric is new to Riley Blake Designs. It is looking great and the fabric is showcasing very well.

This is Boo to You! by My Mind's Eye. Our Halloween line for 2010. We're not quite finished decorating this section yet. Don't you love our Riley Blake Design Signs? I think they turned out great.
The front of the booth shows Summer Song. I love how the pillars and fabric walls have pulled…

May 19, 2010 Setting up for Quilt Market

Well here we are and look what greeted us! We have 4 crates for Riley Blake Designs and Brian welcomes us all with a thumbs up that everything is here. I think we're good to start setting up.

And look there's Randy with his big smile ready to roll up his sleeves and get to work.

There's Matt. We're all running to try and keep up with him. He's a whirlwind and we'll have this set up in no time at all.
Look at everyone working so hard to put the floor together. This floor helps save our feet from falling off at the end of a busy day.
Oh, and look who is across from us. It's Pie Plate Patterns. Bonnie is busy putting something together and the truth be known we just like being across from them because they have the best homemade caramels in the world. This time we brought our famous Riley Blake Designs chocolates. They're the best. We'll use our chocolates to barter for caramels. If you have ever tasted Kara Chocolates, they're yummy!

Oh, and look aga…

Busy Bee

It's a very busy time here in my studio and at the office. Lots of new fabric lines to get ready for market. You know how fun it is to work with new fabric and especially if it's cute. This is a new line by Emily Taylor for Riley Blake Designs called Felicity. You can see the golds and reds here and there are also beautiful blues and greens.

This is my Butterfly Kisses pattern line called the Snowflake skirt. We have a lot of new trims at Riley Blake Designs and I have tried to use a lot of them in my projects. You can see the yellow jumbo ric rac above and then below you can see the lime green mini pom poms and black 3/4" ric rac.

This is a quilt I designed out of Felicity. You can see more of the colors in the line. I think it has a lot of contrast and is a very unique look for quilts and projects.

Notice the great contrast in colors.

This is another peak at the Hooty Hoot Kangaroo line designed by Doohikey Designs for Riley Blake Designs.
I used the flannel here and was …

What are you working on this week?

Here is a sneak peak at what I am working on for quilt market coming very soon. (We leave in about 10 days.) Oh boy, that reminds me of all the work I have left to do. This is a flannel quilt I have put together with some strike offs. This line of fabric is called Hooty Hoot Kangaroo and doesn't reach the quilt stores until July.
Isn't it darling. It's a boy line with 3 different colorways and I think it is going to sell very well at quilt market. It is designed by Doohikey Designs for Riley Blake Designs.
This is a cute skirt I made with a flower brooch out of Boo to You! This line will be in stores in May. It is designed by My Mind's Eye for Riley Blake Designs. This is out of my pattern line called Butterfly Kisses and is called the Snowflake Skirt.
This is another very cute Snowflake Skirt out of Felicity designed by Emily Taylor for Riley Blake Designs.
I'll try to remember to keep taking pictures and show you all the fun things we have getting ready for market. T…

Korea 2010

I just got back from Korea where Riley Blake Designs fabric is made. It was incredible and I learned so much. They are truly artists in the industry of making fabric. Their eye for detail and precision is amazing. This is a picture of the raw fabric getting ready to be cleaned and bleached to be the foundation for a great fabric.

This is the fabric bleached and getting ready for print.

This is where the dyes are mixed and prepared for the printing of the fabric.

As you can see the factory is so clean. You can see below the screens being prepared for printing.

This is one of our screens from our Christmas line Be Merry.

This is the first screen where glue is applied to the fabric to help the dye adhere to the fabric.

Next you can see the ink being applied by windshield wipers that move back and forth. The fabric runs underneath these screens as they lift and move in a synchronized order.

The fabric is then dried and the ink set.
Next the fabric is washed and given the shriners finish which ma…
